Icy is 'n skemerkelkglas wat ontwerp is vir yskoue drankies en gelaagde skemerkelke. Elke stuk word met die mond geblaas in 'n ateljee in Finland en in 'n houtvorm gevorm. 'n Antieke Venesiaanse tegniek skep die gekraakte ysagtige oppervlak, terwyl die vorm moderne Skandinawiese eenvoud volg. Die rand word met 'n vlam afgewerk vir 'n gladde kant. The design philosophy in Icy series is to create elegant, timeless and durable everyday objects with soul. An important part of the value base of the objects is to preserve and enliven the disappearing craftsmanship of studio made glass.
Afmetings & Verpakking: The diameter of the Icy glass is 80 mm and heigh 100 mm. The dimensions are designed so that the tumbler offers a sturdy feel in the hand and the capacity of the glass is suitable for modern designer drinks.

Produksietegnologie: The ancient Venetian glass blowing tecnique for creating the crackled icy surface is combined with fresh 3D designed Scandinavian shape. The piece is blown into a wooden mold. The rim finishing is made with a flame, for creating smooth and high quality finish. Icy glasses are studio made, mouth blown glass. Glasses are signed and numbered.
Ontwerpuitdaging: The creative challenge was to combine Venetian tradition with modern simplicity in order to create harmony. The main technique in the process is crackling the glass. It was vital to find the perfect structure, so that the effect remain elegant and the surface is resistant. Durability and performance of the object were important goals in the process. Combination of techniques made the object extremely durable, which is important in drinking glasses designed to last for decades.
Navorsing: The starting point of the process has been to design objects that the user attaches emotional value to. Glasses are made to last for decades.
