Unique Properties
For Bizoux, color-change gemstones - those rare jewels that reveal two distinct hues - stand as the very emblem of our brand. We believe that these gems symbolize the celebration and expression of diversity, a value at the heart of our creations. Thanks to our unparalleled sourcing capabilities, we have secured some of the world’s most exceptional color-change stones and transformed them into extraordinary jewelry. At the pinnacle of this pursuit lies our high jewelry masterpiece: Chromatophore.
Inspiration
The immeasurable beauty of natural gemstones, combined with the calculated precision of craftsmanship, defines our jewelry aesthetics. Born from this duality, Chromatophore takes its name from the chameleon’s pigment cells, showcasing color-change gems set with advanced micro pave techniques. Using exceptional materials - alexandrite, bekily blue garnet, and more - we refined complexity and precision to shape an organic, three-dimensional form that embodies the chameleon’s natural dynamism.
Research
The creation began with a study of the chameleon’s form, its expressions refined through sketches into a vision of high jewelry. Gemstones of varied sizes cover the surface, echoing the textures of its skin. Even the reverse, unseen in wear, bears forest-leaf motifs of its habitat. Each stone is set with precision, uniting nature’s mysterious elegance with the mastery of human craftsmanship.
Challenge
The pave setting, covering the entire form, required strict technical discipline. The chameleon’s organic contours demanded advanced 3D CAD, refined in 0.1 mm increments with prongs recalculated for structural optimization. Master setters then adjusted each seat, using stones of varied diameters to achieve organic irregularity. Every micro-adjustment - shaving, repositioning, fine-tuning - ensured a flawless surface, uniting measurable control with refined craftsmanship.
Realization and Technology
Forged in 18K yellow gold for strength and radiance, this piece holds 392 hand-selected gemstones in flawless pave. Stones as small as 1.0 mm are individually designed in 3D and set by a single artisan with precise care. Black rhodium plating minimizes metal, dissolving boundaries so only brilliance remains. Chromatophore transforms rare gems into a constellation where light itself becomes emotion.
Operation and Interaction
The clasp mechanism on the reverse side is precision-engineered for effortless opening and closing, allowing seamless wear. The brooch is structurally optimized with two pins, carefully positioned to ensure maximum stability. Each component is crafted with meticulous attention, providing a secure, stress-free, and technically flawless fit.
Project Duration and Location
The creation of Chromatophore began in October 2022 at our Tokyo-Nihonbashi office. The initial design sketches and highly detailed technical drawings were conceived at the BIZOUX atelier, before being brought to life in the renowned jewelry workshops of Kofu, Yamanashi-Japan’s historic center of fine jewelry craftsmanship. The piece was completed in June 2023 and has since been exhibited at GINZA SIX, one of Tokyo’s most prestigious commercial landmarks.
