Design Details

Unique Properties
This design integrates a four led optical system delivering powerful, uniform illumination up to 1500 lumens, housed in a compact and highly durable abs structure. It is 130 degree adjustable head, compatible with an 18V power tools platform, and combined lighting and warning mode distinguish it from conventional work lights. The ergonomic soft grip handle and portable form factor enhance usability in demanding environments.
Inspiration
The design is inspired by the robust and unmistakable identity of professional tools defined by clarity, precision and functional strength. Drawing from the brand's blue tint visual language, the concept combines industrial reliability with modern portability. The goal was to create a cordless lamp that embodies professional confidence while addressing real world job site lighting challenges.
Research
This applied design research focused on improving portable task lighting with objectives centred on durability, illumination quality, and ergonomic use. Methods included user observation, competitive analysis, and iterative cad modelling. Data was collected through field testing with professional tradespeople. Results indicated demand for longer range illumination, simpler operation, and a rugged housing. These insights guided the development of a compact, high output lamp that enhances productivity and supports real world job site needs.
Challenge
The key challenge was balancing high light output, compact size, and power tool battery compatibility within strict ergonomic and durability requirements. Achieving uniform optical performance while maintaining a rugged abs structure required multiple design iterations. External constraints such as tool platform geometry, impact-resistance standards, and manufacturing limitations demanded precise engineering to deliver a compact yet powerful, professional-grade lamp.
Realization and Technology
The design utilises precision‑engineered abs and pc for structural durability, reinforced for impact and abrasion resistance. A multi‑lens optical module is integrated to optimise led distribution and thermal performance. The housing follows power tools professional design language through controlled surface transitions, ergonomic contouring, and over‑moulded softgrip zones. Cad development and iterative prototyping ensured mechanical accuracy and production feasibility.
Operation and Interaction
This design is activated through a single multifunction switch for quick mode selection, allowing seamless transition between three brightness levels and a warning flash mode. The 130 degrees swivel head enables precise beam positioning without moving the base. Its ergonomic soft grip handle enhances control, while power tool battery compatibility allows effortless power exchange, improving workflow efficiency across varied job site scenarios.
