Sfida tad-Disinn: The biggest challenge in designing the Chong Daybed was preserving the traditional essence of the bamboo chong while applying modern design principles. Sema Desgin Studio tested seven different versions, facing issues such as instability, lack of sturdiness, and even frame breakage. Through continuous refinement, the structure was optimized to achieve high durability and stability. Disassemblable components and a modular assembly system were introduced to ensure flexibility and ease of maintenance while maintaining the traditional spirit of the bamboo chong in a modern design.
Riċerka: The research process began with studying the traditional bamboo chong in Vietnamese folk life, followed by experiments with sustainable materials such as oak wood and microfiber leather. Designers thoroughly researched the structure and function of the bamboo chong, while incorporating modern design principles to create a product that meets the flexible needs of contemporary living spaces.
