Traditional Korean paintings are mainly based on natural flowers and animals. Especially in folk paintings, scary animals are expressed in a friendly and fun. Since ancient times, sacred animals have been guardians of the village, and these paintings were thought to be protected from evil spirits if they were hung in the house.

In ancient Korea, tigers were the guardian deities of mountains. The tiger is a subject that appears frequently in folk paintings. This painting is a friendly drawing of a sacred animal.
