वर्णपरिवर्तनम् इति वस्त्रं तापसंवेदनशीलैः द्रव्यैः निर्मितम् अस्ति। यदा वस्त्रं शरीरस्य ऊष्मणा, सूर्यप्रकाशेन वा अन्यस्य व्यक्तेः ऊष्मणा संयुज्यते तदा तस्य वर्णः परिवर्तते। अतः आलिङ्गनम् इव निकटसम्पर्कः वस्त्रस्य पृष्ठे दृश्यमानो भवति। प्रतिरूपम् एवं छिन्नम् अस्ति यत् वस्त्रस्य संरचनात्मकाः रेखाः प्रकाशिताः भवन्ति, एताः रेखाः च संश्लेषकपट्टेन (अधेसिव-टेप्) संवृताः सन्ति। पट्टः तापं प्रति न प्रतिक्रियां करोति, अतः यदा परितः स्थितं वस्त्रं वर्णं परिवर्तयति तदापि सः स्थिरः तिष्ठति। द्रव्ययोः मध्ये अयं विरोधाभासः ऊष्मायाः गुप्तपरिवर्तनानि सुखेन दृश्यानि करोति।
