Matisse Blue is a modular floor lamp made of drop-shaped shades on a metal core. Each part attaches to the stem and is lit by internal led strips placed along the upper curve. This leaves the lower part of the shade in shadow, creating a sense of depth. The modular system allows more parts to be added, so the object can change in height and density over time.

The frame is made from steel with a matte black finish. A central spine holds the light strips. The shades are made from tyvek, a material chosen because it is strong and spreads light evenly. Each shade is heat-formed to keep its rounded shape while looking like hand-cut paper. The parts use simple attachments so the lamp looks like it is expanding naturally.

The main task was to find the right blue glow without losing the texture of the material. We had to balance the rounded shapes with the structural needs of a tall floor lamp. We also had to manage the small amount of heat from the lights to keep the material safe. Finally, we worked on the modular joints so that adding new parts felt natural and not mechanical.

This study looked at how to use color and light technology together. The goal was to move from 2D silhouettes to 3D volumes. We tested different ways to fold the paper-like material and calibrated the light colors to match a specific blue. We used full-scale models to check how light spreads. The results showed that tyvek can look like art paper while staying safe and durable for home use.

This lamp is based on the paper cut-outs of Henri Matisse. The goal was to turn 2D shapes into 3D light. The blue volumes are shaped like leaves or petals that attach to a dark stem. The structure follows a natural growth pattern, aiming to find a balance between art and daily use.

The lamp works as a light source and a visual focal point. As a person moves around the object, the overlapping shapes change their appearance, similar to how paper cut-outs look in different spaces. The light strips create a soft glow through the synthetic paper, filling the room with a blue tone. It provides light without glare from any angle.
