Moralo

Mabapi le Hoor Light

Hoor Light is a reinterpretation of the Iranian Hooraneh, an architectural element designed to filter daylight through narrow openings. The lamp is formed by two metal plates held together with concealed magnets, enclosing a diffuser that distributes the light evenly. Instead of emitting a direct beam, it produces a gentle illumination that defines the surrounding space. The design connects traditional references with contemporary production methods, merging cultural heritage with present-day use.

Boleng bo Ikhethang
Hoor, a whisper of light. In a world saturated with brightness, it chooses restraint. It does not beam light, but lets it softly emanate quiet, indirect, like a memory of a fading tradition in the architecture of arid lands, where light passed through the stillness of Hooranehs and shadows held meaning.
Two facing metal plates, held together only by magnets, conceal a diffuser within. Light seeps gently through the gap between them not as illumination, but as a delicate presence. Hoor is not merely a lamp, but a pause within space a contemporary object with an ancient soul.

Theknoloji ya Tlhahiso
The Hoor lamp is the result of blending modern technological precision with the delicacy of handcraft. Its body is made from CNC-cut metal sheets, which are then hand-finished to create a natural, weathered texture, celebrating the beauty of time and decay rather than newness and shine.
The plates are joined using strong, precise magnets, enabling effortless assembly and disassembly without leaving any visible screws or fasteners, thus creating a minimal and seamless appearance. The gap between the diffuser and the metal plate is sealed on one side with silicone adhesive and on the other with an O-ring washer, ensuring structural integrity and durability within the lamp’s 12 mm thickness.
Phephetso ya Moralo
The primary challenge in producing the Hoor lamp was prestressing the steel plates using high-strength steel to prevent twisting or bending over time, ensuring the lamp’s form remains intact. Additionally, designing and resolving the precise details for integrating the LEDs, diffuser plates, and achieving complete waterproofing within the limited 12 mm thickness required high technical accuracy and meticulous coordination between components.
Dipatlisiso
Objects carry ideas and cultures, forming a reciprocal relationship in which they both derive identity from their context and contribute to shaping it. Our daily lives are shaped through embodied interactions with objects, becoming part of our lived experience. In our view, this lived experience in the contemporary world holds a weakened connection to the authentic Iranian context.

Based on this, we explore the potential of Iranian forms to shape objects. Among these, the Persian alphabet stands out as one of the purest forms, refined over centuries and carrying the essence of Iranian culture and ideas. This led us to investigate the design possibilities of Persian script for creating Iranian objects, resulting in the design and production of a furniture collection. This endeavor marks the first step of Momken Studio toward creating truly Iranian objects.
Kgothaletso
The Hoor lamp is inspired by the traditional concept of Hooraneh in Iranian architecture, especially in hot and arid regions. These architectural elements controlled natural light by guiding it through narrow openings, preventing glare and creating a soft, diffused ambiance with a calm and spiritual atmosphere. Hoor reinterprets this timeless approach to light in a contemporary form.
Hoor seeks to reinterpret this lighting philosophy in a contemporary form.
Nako ya Projeke
The Project Started in May 2023 in Tehran and Finished on October 2023 in the Same City.
Tsamaiso ya Mosebetsi
The robust structure and precise sealing of the Hoor lamp, combined with its indirect light distribution and adjustable brightness, make it ideal for open areas, outdoor spaces, and rooftops.
It features a durable underground compartment that securely houses the power supply, while strong clamps and locks anchor the lamp to the ground, ensuring resistance to environmental conditions and theft. For easy maintenance and repair, the metal body plates are connected with powerful magnets and can be effortlessly detached using an opposing magnet, allowing the lamps to be replaced without unscrewing or using any special tools.
