This project reimagines a 55 square meters counseling space as a serene "indoor forest," using arc lines, soft corners, and natural materials to create safety, inclusiveness, and accessibility. Unlike conventional offices, it blends light, shadow, and flowing circulation to dissolve rigidity, offering visitors a calm, homelike setting for dialogue and emotional healing.

Interior space: 55 square meters. Functional areas include reception, waiting, counseling, and multi-use corridor zones. Circulation was designed to meet accessibility standards for wheelchair use. Ceiling, wall, and furniture profiles adopt arc geometry, with ridge-style ceilings, rounded corners, and integrated tree-hole features ensuring both functionality and inclusiveness.

The interior applies precision carpentry to achieve seamless curves, custom joinery for soft corners, and paint layering for geometric compositions. Main materials include natural wood, marble, eco-friendly paints, and woven blinds. Modular lighting and reflective surfaces enhance rhythm, while all finishes are selected for recyclability and environmental responsibility.

The main challenge was balancing accessibility, privacy, and fluidity within a narrow 55 square meters footprint. Regulations for wheelchair access demanded rethinking circulation. Overcoming rigidity, the design replaced straight lines with arcs, integrated multi-functional corners, and used material contrasts for depth. The result harmonizes technical constraints with human-centered warmth and cultural symbolism.

Qualitative research was conducted with counseling professionals and potential users. Objectives were to create an accessible, non-threatening environment that supports dialogue. Methods included site analysis, observational studies, and interviews. Results showed users felt safer with curved forms, warm tones, and natural textures. Insights shaped a design where spatial softness fosters psychological openness.

The design draws inspiration from the harbor city's history of Nanmu timber export and its ever-present sea breeze. These elements translated into warm tones, gentle curves, and rhythmic light, echoing local memories. The concept seeks to extend the dialogue between past and present, indoors and outdoors, while creating a space where trust and openness can naturally grow.

The project started in February 2025 and finished in June 2025 in Taiwan, China.

Visitors experience the space as a continuous, flowing journey. Rounded corners guide circulation smoothly, while soft lighting and natural textures reduce stress and promote openness. Flexible layouts allow for private or group interaction. Each detail from reception height to seating encourages trust, relaxation, and natural conversation without physical or psychological barriers.
